The Next FinderMacmillan Education, Australia, December 2009 This novelette was written at upper primary level for the Literacy Network: Critical Literacy series. It’s a fantasy about a boy named Toby who discovers a very unusual piece of junk in the local junkyard. He takes it home and that night is attacked by mysterious shadows. Returning to the junkyard he meets the owner, Mr Scarp, and a range of creatures made from junk. The fate of the world hangs in the balance and it’s up to Toby to put things right. |
X Marks the MP3Macmillan Education, Australia, December 2009 This novelette was written at mid-primary level for the Literacy Network: Critical Literacy series. It’s an adventure story set in Japan. Andy and his parents go for a holiday to Japan, but are pursued by mysterious men in black suits, wearing red dots on their lapels. The cover credits Milos Juratovic as the author… he’s my character in the 298 class. To maintain the illusion, my name only appears in small print with all the other publication details. Milos is obsessed with UFOs and decides to try his hand at writing fiction. The result is a short story called “The Night Aliens Landed In My Backyard”, which he submits as his school project for that year. |

Generation ShipRigby Heinemann, Australia, September 2001 This science fiction novelette is set aboard a gigantic spaceship, which has been traveling for so long that society has stratified into two distinct groups — the Nats and the Techs. The story is about a Nat boy named Jardeen who meets a Tech girl named Tria. When the ship finally reaches a planet to settle on, it is up to these two children to teach their two societies how to cooperate with each other. I also wrote a short story sequel to Generation Ship, called “Saving Eden”. Set many years after the events of the novelette, the colonists now find themselves facing a new danger… from Earth.
