Puffin is 80!

Celebrating 80 years of PUFFINPuffin in the kids’ imprint of Penguin Random House and 2020 is the little bird’s 80th birthday. There should have been HUGE celebrations! There should have been parties! There should have been MASSIVE author events!

BUT…

We had Covid-19 instead. So celebrations happened in the virtual world instead. Social media banners, videos, pics and all sort of online stuff happened. There were also posters and water bottles.

I celebrated with a series of Instagram posts, PUFFINS ON MY SHELVES, in which I shared some of my favorite Puffin books. I’ve decided to collect all 10 pics here…

PUFFINS ON MY SHELVES 1

One of my favourite authors is John Christopher… these are some of his books, published in the 1970s and 80s by Puffin.

Happy 80th Anniversary, Puffin.

PUFFINS ON MY SHELVES 2

It is such a thrill to be published under the same brand as one of my favourite Australian authors. I love Lee Harding’s books.

Happy 80th Anniversary, Puffin.

PUFFINS ON MY SHELVES 3

Paul Jennings is a master of the quirky, irreverent and unpredictable short story. Always so much fun to read. And an inspiration as a writer.

Happy 80th Anniversary, Puffin.

PUFFINS ON MY SHELVES 4

There are so many Puffin Books I’ve enjoyed over the years.

PUFFINS ON MY SHELVES 9

I’ve read so many Puffin picture books over the years with my kids. Here are some…
“The Pear in the Pear Tree” by Pamela Allen.
“Count Much: The Vampire Who Loved Chocolate” by Michael Salmon.
“Dougal the Garbage Dump Bear” by Matt Dray.
“Here Comes the Poo Bus!” by Andy Stanton & Noelle Davies-Brock.
“Prince Cinders” by Babette Cole.

Happy 80th Anniversary, PUFFIN!

PUFFINS ON MY SHELVES 10

And for my final post in this series, here are some of my Puffin books. I cannot express how chuffed I am at being part of the Puffin ensemble. Aside from this cute little bird’s long kidlit history, I also have a very personal connection as a reader.

Happy 80th Anniversary, PUFFIN!
