Launching NYR12
On Monday 20 February I had the great pleasure of launching the National Year of Reading celebrations at my old school, Mentone Grammar. I even got to cut a ribbon with the school’s Principal, Mr Mal Cater…
It’s a lot harder than it looks… especially when the scissors are blunt. 🙂 But Mr Cater and I persevered and eventually completed the task.
I also got the chance to talk about how I was first engaged with reading when I was at school, and how I strongly believe that it is never too late to discover the wonders of the written word. Many thanks to the Mentone Grammar library staff, the teachers and the students for making me feel so welcome. Check out the Mentone Grammar website for more about the launch.
A few days later, I appeared on the Southern FM radio show, Write Now. Along with author David Campbell and host Gaytana Adorna, I spoke about the National Year of Reading and the importance of encouraging people to read. A podcast is available here.
